There is a
question I would like to propose to you in
this article, "If you were a dinner
companion of Jesus would you feel
comfortable or would it be an uncomfortable
evening?"
I find an
amazing story in Luke 15: 1,2. It tells of
three types of people gathering there. We
find publicans, sinners, and Pharisees. The
ones that should have been so glad to be
with the Master in fact were the ones most
critical of him and the ones you perhaps
might feel would not be so anxious to see
him were the most excited. The Pharisees
could never enjoy being with the Lord
because of their critical spirit they
possessed. Instead of just basking in the
presence of Him they had to scrutinize the
ones that always seemed to be drawn to him
and how he just accepted them as they were.
They could not believe that one, such as a
Holy Man, would tolerate these types of
people touching him and him eating with him.
The
religious pious ones were uncomfortable at
the Lords table but let us look and see the
ones that were comfortable there and why.
They were comfortable because even though
they may have not been living up to the
Pharisees standard, here was a man that
would be compassionate and lovingly tell
them how they could have hope. Just ask
Zacheus, the woman caught in adultery, the
leprous man, or even Mary Magnelin they are
so glad the Lord allowed them to sit at his
table and receive what they had never been
given the chance to before.
Even today
many are kept away by modern day Pharisees
but as for me I am glad that He gave me a
personal invitation to set with Him. Even
though the religious ones say unworthy I say
this to them. Though I may be undeserving I
am not unworthy because of the blood soaked
invitation he gave to me and all that chose
to come without being critical of who will
be at the table.
He allows
whosoever to come and sit with Him and it is
those that think they are above everyone
else that have trouble at that table. The
Bible tells us all have sinned and came
short of the glory of God. So where is your
seat, is it at His table or are you across
the room sitting in the seat of the
scornful? It would be awful to be in the
room with the son of God and not enjoy him.
The sinners
life is not so satisfactory that he cannot
turn to Christ but the proud and the
self-righteous are in great danger. So I ask
would you be comfortable or uncomfortable.
After all our Lord and Savior Jesus received
and ate with the unsavory of that day. I
thank God He let me sit and learn of His
amazing grace.
Your Shepherd,
