Rain...

2nd Qtr. 2009

As I sit here writing this article today it is raining, but it is also warm. Rain is something that sometimes we never want but without it how could we receive the benefits it brings. Just think how would flowers, crops, vegetables, grass, and trees ever grow if not for the rain. Rain also puts nutrients into the ground to help with the growth.
Likewise in our lives there sometimes come rainy days; but we can make great use of these days to reflect on the goodness that God has given unto us. You may say how can a person do this in a troubling time? Did you ever consider that most of us it were not for such times, rainy days, would never think about how much we are blessed.
If we always live above the clouds there is nothing growing. Look at the tops of the highest mountains, above the tree line there is nothing but barren ground or it is frozen. Never is a flower seen or the greenest of herbs. Even though the sun is always shining there is nothing growing and that in itself is dismal.
We, in our lives, always want to live on top of the mountain but what beauty lies in the valley where every now and then a cloudy, rainy day happens. When someone is in that rainy day experience and there be one that comforts them, they are that flower that blooms and blossoms because of the rain.
I find that it is rainy days that bring the best out in people that love God. They can become umbrellas to shield the person that is in life's rain and the Bible tells us to comfort one another (1 Thes 4:18). Psalm 30:5 states weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.
A lot of folks are experiencing rainy days but always remember that this too shall pass and after the clouds roll away and life's sun begins to shine again look for the new growth and the freshness that the rain has brought. We can drink keep of the rain and when the dry times of life come we will have enough resources to carry us that our leaf will not wither and we can still be fruitful.
When Christ was put in the tomb it must have been a dismal day for His disciples but when he arose on the third day out of the grave came light as never before. Because of those trying times we have hope - hope that sprang forth out of the gloomiest rainy day that man had spiritually known to see the blossoming of the rose of Sharon and to savor the fragrance of sweet salvation.
Lord never let us lose sight of you on our rainy days but know that something will grow out of it because we endured the rain.
