Disease of spiritual myopia
3rd Qtr.
2006

In Revelation
3:18 John writes to the Laodicean church, "I
counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the
fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white
raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and
that the shame of thy nakedness do not
appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve,
that thou mayest see."
Why were these words written to the
church there? It was because they had
contacted the disease of spiritual myopia.
Physical myopia is a form of nearsightedness
in that a person has a hard time seeing
things unless they are very close. They are
limited by this condition. In fact,
sometimes they can only see when things are
right in front of their nose. With this
prospective their world becomes small.
In today's church world many are myopic
in their attitude of life. Many live in the
small world of me and mine. Spiritual myopia
happens when we see only from our
prospective, which is limited. When this
sickness takes us, the world begins to
revolve around us in smaller and smaller
circles. Some symptoms of this is a critical
and negative attitude, expect others to
serve us but don't think of sacrificing for
others in need, and complaining freely.
We may even find we have no room for God
for we are consumed by our own desires and
wishes. If there is a place for Him it is
small and we never get Him out unless it is
to do something for us. The more we focus on
ourselves the smaller our world becomes, but
if we will look up to heaven, David said,
"look unto the hills from whence cometh my
help," Psalm 121:1, our world gets larger
and filled with God's glory.
We need to shift our eyes from me to
Him, and as we do this, healing balm will
fill our eyes and we will be able to see
things as never before. When we are
afflicted with myopia in worship we say,
"What will I get out of this experience?"
Worship should be about giving God glory and
honor, lifting up His name, not about our
wants, needs, and desires. What if every
follower of Christ had a self centered view
of worship? True churches would fold and
close in weeks because people would demand
that their desires would be catered to and
true worship would never break forth.
But then imagine a service in which
every person had just one thing on their
mind. Giving glory to God, to praise and
exalt His name, lifting up the name of
Jesus. Consuming passion would over take the
church, the Holy Ghost would be in
operation, people would sing with feeling,
pray with humbleness, live joyfully, and
fellowship with meekness.
What might happen you ask? REVIVAL
would break out and God would be there in
great power, the Holy Ghost doing great
signs and wonders. Most of all the world
would be drawn to this authentic and
anointed worship. Let us pray that God would
heal our eyes that we stop looking at
ourselves and begin to look thru the eyes of
the Lord.
O' Father heal us of our spiritual
myopia and let us do as John the Baptist
said, "I must decrease but He must increase"
and in this Lord we will become the Spirit
filled, Holy Ghost led church you want Solid
Rock to become. We desire to see your glory
in our sanctuary O' God. Fill it with thy
presence that there may be healings,
deliverance from devils, salvation, and the
Word may be preached with boldness unto the
convicting of sin.
Your Pastor,
Anthony Krummrey
